Nature Isn’t Good and Isn’t Bad Either!

Is progressing a bad thing or a good thing?  Some people out there prefer that we could live like we were in the past because we couldn’t develop as much and so we didn’t pollute the environment.  They would argue that living closer to mother nature would naturally be good and be healthy, and anything otherwise is just bad!  They would argue that scientific advancements like nuclear power would be bad and so forth.  Basically, they would like to roam naked in the wood and prefer doing things more naturally!  Once again, are they right or wrong?

This specific case, I think they’re not only wrong but super stupid!  In the movies, we got superhuman, but in this case, we got super dumb ideology!  Why?  Just like any tool, it got two sides!  One good and one bad!  Like a knife, you could use a knife to cut food or kill people!  One is good, and one is bad!  So, when scientific developments are meant to be used for good, these things are naturally good.  These things are more natural than a rock which sits pretty on the ground all day long!

People who argue that developments are bad should ask the dinosaurs why they had extinct!  Isn’t it obvious that the dinosaurs couldn’t think as deep as humans thus they could not fly away for a brief vacation till things on earth cool down?  This is why scientific advancements are super crucial for the human race as a whole!  We need to be able to escape one rock and cultivate another just so we could avoid our own extinction!

Us humans tend to be not only stupid but we are also very arrogant!  We tend to think that what we got would last forever!  Unfortunately, we could not live forever, and our human race won’t exist forever also!  Why?  Even the sun will cease to exist eventually!  So, even the scale of the universe would not last forever, why would we think our earth would last forever?  If earth would not last forever, how will human race last forever?  Isn’t it natural for earthy humans to devise plans for our continuation even though we know nothing would last forever?

So, let’s get back down to earth and think simpler!  I think nature itself is just a tool!  If you’re sick and needing a cure, the right herbs naturally would cure you.  If you’re not too careful and eating the wrong mushrooms that exist naturally in nature, you would naturally die!  Nature exists as both good and bad!  So let us not be that stupid to think that developments are bad, and whatever exists naturally is naturally good!

Sometimes, hugging a tree is bad for the whole human race!  Instead of hugging a tree, we need to plant trees as a development and common sense!  Don’t argue that any development is bad!  Don’t just say nuclear power is unsafe!  In fact, I believe that we may need more advancement in nuclear power so we could suppress the tyranny of distance within our universe so we could travel far and cultivate more out-of-this-world colonies (i.e., in space) so we could lengthen the human race lifespan!

Nationalism Vs. Globalism, Where Does This Lead? Probably to a Nowhere!

Globalism seems to be getting a bad rap lately, because locally people are suffering from global competition.  Jobs from a global market either had already been moved to another part of the world in the name of efficiency in cost and whatnot or will be replaced by market elsewhere that is more competitive.  So, locally, people are not feeling good at all about global aspects.

We’re seeing many people try to promote local brand, local ideas, local culture, and local anything over anything global.  Of course, it’s not a bad thing to promote local culture, ideas and whatnot, because these things are essential for a local life-force.  Nonetheless, when we become too extreme in promoting local over global agenda, we may create an atmosphere that would lead to a road of violences and not of solutions.

Imagine how the Nazi or similar groups came about or will be created because of such extremism.  Basically, I believe that the Nazis were not only Hitler’s henchmen, but many of them were believing in a movement of a pure race mentality which believes in purity and superiority over other identities.  So, in Hitler’s time, if you’re a Jew, you would be considered the lowest scum of all scums on earth, thus Hitler did try to wipe out the entire Jewish identity from the planet earth.

The Nazi mentality would seem making sense for the Nazis, but on the outside most people would not agree, because such a movement promotes senseless killing and senseless violence.  Thus I think anything that is taking too extreme may do more harm than good.  So, in these days, many people are promoting local brands over global brands, and it’s not really a bad thing.  Nonetheless, I think we should do this on a scale that makes sense — by not overdoing it.  If not, we may promote a form of extremism that will only incite a bigger conflict eventually.

Imagine a scenario in which we would close off our border, stop trading with everyone else globally, and try to create a self-sustain nation in which we believe that would stop global competition and bring better economic prosperity for people within our nation — this looks a lot like North Korea now.  But we all know that North Korea isn’t doing very well economically for a very long time.  Actually, North Korea had been poor since the conception of its whole political body.

Just right next door, China, once was as poor as North Korea, but now this neighbor known as China has become the largest economy on earth in term of Purchasing Power Parity measure and many people suggest that China will become the largest economy on earth in nominal GDP term sooner than later.  The neighbors cannot be any differ in term of size and economic prowess, because the gap between the North Koreans and the Chinese seems to be the size of a galaxy — an exaggeration of course but relevant nonetheless.

China achieved all of their success not by closing down borders, stop trading, and try to be self-sustained like North Korea, but China opened and continues to open up just the right amount of space for foreign trades, investments, cooperations, and whatnot.  So, I think China did think about how to face the challenge of global competition before they opened up their economy just right which had allowed them to be where they are today.

For countries like the United States, we’re facing a challenge of cost efficiency, and so our products are more expensive to export.  Perhaps we should think about closing our door with just a right amount of space but leave the door open just wide enough to stem the outflow of jobs — creating enough breathing space for people within the country to survive and thrive and compete.

Nonetheless, such a solution is only for short term treatment, because in the future our technologies may be so disruptive that the technologies we will employ will take away all of our jobs.  When such thing occurs, no matter how many borders you close down, how many trades you stop from occurring will not be able to keep jobs at home.  So, the solution won’t be available in the basket of creating jobs for the people, but the solution would be in the basket of how to support a society in which people will no longer work for a living, on a global scale.

What is the solution?  At the moment, I don’t think any single solution would be satisfactory in answering the AI taking away jobs question, because we’re not actually suffering from a total domination from a machine overlord just yet.  Instead, we’re seeing machines slowly take away jobs from various people in various sectors.  Eventually though, the Artificial Intelligence would get so smart that it would take away most jobs from the people.

If AI is inevitably going to take away most of our jobs, we should steer the course of such a trend to benefit the humanity.  After all, we’re the humanity!  So, I suggest that we should employ smart machines to create the abundances that we need to free us all from basic necessaries, and this would allow us to focus on living better.  We then would probably question ourselves what would we do if the smart machines do all the jobs.

Will we become so bored and mindless that we rather die young than live too long?  Nonetheless, in the future we may have technologies that would extend our lifespan.  But there is a possibility in which we as the humanity as a whole would try to explore the next frontier which is the universe itself.  Maybe the smart machines would get us to be so free that we would venture out into the farthest space within the universe to explore and question not only our origin, but the universe itself — and have a better chance at doing this than ever before.

Anyway, after watching “Nationalism vs. globalism: the new political divide | Yuval Noah Harari” TED Talks video on YouTube, my brain starts to question a lot more about our future.  This brief essay is the result of my watching of this video.  The video is right after the break.  Enjoy!

Creative Thinking: Aliens & A Star

I read something on the Internet today, and the article mentioned that a star, Gliese 710, is heading toward our solar system.  This is interesting to me since I have only heard of other smaller bodies of space to be traveling around like a comet or so, but something as big as 60% of our Sun could be traveling like this is something new to me entirely.  The article mentioned that in about 1.35 million years or so, this star would enter our solar system and cut through Oort Cloud which may trigger lots of other smaller bodies of space to travel in earth’s direction.  This could mean lot of stuffs could hurl toward earth and create lots of destructions.

Anyhow, that is interesting, but my imagination is running wild again.  I’m thinking that if an alien civilization out there that is so advance in which they have the knowledge of turning a star or a planet into a spaceship.  Perhaps, they could travel to another solar system like so without ever needing a smaller spaceships to do so.  They could breed and live as usual in a planet size spaceship, and once they arrive at a solar system they would carry on their whatever they have had in mind.

Nonetheless, the question is can the aliens remember their objectives after 1.35 million years?  Or perhaps, in couple hundred thousands more years, the aliens already know how to speed up their star size spaceship to the point that it will reach earth for let’s say in half the time of 1.35 million years?

Anyhow, this is only a scenario in which my imagination runs wild on, and so don’t take what I’m writing here literally.  For all we know, perhaps it’s only a star which hurls toward earth’s direction.  Nonetheless, as an intelligent species, us humans should be opened to all possibilities, and only in this manner that we may never be caught by any surprise which could have a devastation on us all.

Should A Brain Be Super-Charge?

The brain, sometimes it’s up all night, and sometimes it’s snoring away.  Sometimes, it needs coffee to get that extra boost of wakefulness, but too much coffee it goes jittery.  When it’s malfunction, it either gets duller or just pure dangerous.  It makes that thing a you, and so greed, ambition, and needs would just creep into self.  Nobody would understand why the brain is so useful and yet so mysterious.  Sure, scientists have had taken a close look at the brain, but to fully understand it would not be possible as we speak.  Nonetheless, this has yet to discourage the science community to explore how to fully map and understand every details of a brain.  They, the brainiacs, want to be able to enhance the brain for coloring a humanity future.  Unfortunately or fortunately, depending on which side you’re with, there are people who oppose the idea of marrying technology with brain, because they think the brain itself should be pure as how it has been through eons for humanity sake.  A jolt of electricity to make the brain smarter would be a no no to these folks.  Matrix’s brain-hack style would definitely be heretical.  The brainiacs though, would want to use technology to enhance, modify, and tinker with the brain so it would go super smart and super useful.  Will the brain make a self less of a self if it’s going super-charge?  Check out the discussion of super-charging a brain in the video right after the break.  Enjoy!!!

Without Moral, War Cannot Be Won, Peace Cannot Be Upheld

I’m a nobody, but I do have an opinion on how important morality is in a time of peace and war.  In peacetime, a country with moral on her side will be able to spread, influent, and expand soft power throughout the world.  In wartime, a country can use moral to rally allies and hearts to strengthen her war agendas.  In my opinion, moral is super important for a country to uphold as you never know in time of need the only thing a country can fall back onto for support and strength is the morality.

With right moral values that do not appear to be having hidden agendas, a country can use her moral values to push for an agenda on a world stage.  Nonetheless, forcefully pushing for an agenda in a way that it seems to utilizing a country’s moral values for blackmailing another would render her moral values almost ineffective.  In the short run, it would seem to work, but in the longer run she would find out that her earlier efforts have been waning and losing fast.

In wartime, moral values can glue disparate ideas and forces into a united front.  Unity in strength and efforts in wartime is super important, because without this everything would not be able to move forward in time of need.  Without unity, there would be no hope left for fighting against an enemy.  Without hope, there won’t be another fight.  Thus, it’s important that moral values are being upheld at the highest esteem in wartime.

When a government sets up a propaganda machine, her purpose is clear.  She is trying to unite minds in one direction for a purpose that she wants to achieve.  In general, she wants to convince her population that her side holds all the right moral values.  Propaganda is complex, but the purpose of propagandizing is rather clear.  It’s to convince and make belief.  Nonetheless, in the long run, propaganda would fail terribly if the government does not hold moral values that people at large would hold dear to their hearts.  After all, there is always someone else who would want to pick apart the propaganda plot.

Even in a single battle, the side with the moral values that worth to die for may enable soldiers in such a battle to fight with all their mights.  Perhaps, with such a purpose or purposes, these soldiers may actually allow her side to gain an upper hand in wartime even when this very single battle is lost.  This shows how important moral values are for peace and war.

In summary, I think moral values that do matter to people are the ones that would encourage people in peacetime and win war in wartime.  Without the moral values that do matter to the people, propaganda would work for awhile until the illusion breaks apart.  Without the right morals, a country cannot win hearts and minds.  Simply put, moral is super important for a country to not only win hearts and minds, but to also build and upkeep her freedom.  A freedom in which allowing her regime to last much longer than otherwise.

Pi Is Awesome, You Should Have Some

I’m far from good at math, but Pi has always been something I hold dear to my heart.  Knowing Pi as the DNA of a circle, I know any circle’s circumference divides by its diameter would result in 3.14.  This means the code for a circle is Pi, because without having a pie you would not get a circle.  Thus, eating up your pie, yeah?  Anyhow, Pi is also mysterious in a way that it would go on forever.  This means, if you have a Pi, you would never be able to finish it.

To be accurate, Pi is not only 3.14, but it’s also 3.14159, 3.1415926535, 3.1415926535897932384626433832795028841971, and it would go on forever.  Don’t ask me why it is like this, because I’m not a mathematician.  Thankfully, we got mathematicians to tell us that Pi is an irrational number, thus it would string on forever without a known permanent pattern.  By without a known permanent pattern, it means that you don’t have a pattern of a Pi yet unless you can finish eating it.  Nonetheless, as of now, nobody knows how Pi would be completely eaten.  Thus, it’s irrational!

Since I’m not a mathematician, I like to think of Pi in a philosophical manner.  Not even sure what this means, but here is my philosophical dictation of Pi.  Imagine you take a pen or a pencil, and then you just draw one circle over and over again, into the infinity.  I call this Pi.  Furthermore, you can also draw another circle within a circle into the infinity, and I also call this Pi.  Perhaps, religiously, Pi is the meaning of reincarnation.  If someone said there is no such thing as reincarnation, maybe you could have a pie!

I also like to think Pi as a code or one of the codes of the God universe!  I imagine a universe we live in does have a border.  This universe’s border is similar to earth’s border, because there would be another universe right outside of this universe’s border.  Nonetheless, the God universe does not have a border, because it would encompass all universes within it.  The God universe would go on forever just like Pi.  So, at least whenever you eat a pie, you can imagine that you eat the God universe.  Can you finish it?

When looking at Pi this way, I wonder how much smaller an atom can be divided?  Scientists have a name for matters that are smaller than the smallest subatomic particles.  What are subatomic particles?  Think these subatomic particles as the particles that you had learned in high school, and these are proton, neutron, and so on.  Nonetheless, scientists call known smallest matters that are the building block for known subatomic particles as elementary particles.  An example of known elementary particles is Quark.  Since scientists like to call these elementary particles as the building block particles that cannot be divided further, it makes me wonder what elementary particles that would make up as the building block for the known elementary particles such as Quark.  Have a pie?

Pi/pie is awesome!  Not the kind of pie that you could ever finish in a meal, but the kind of Pi that you would never be able to eat it all.
