It’s often sad to see software and hardware makers ignore the enthusiasts.  In this case it’s Sony!  Sony has decided that the next update or patch, however you call it, will remove the install other OS option from older PS3 that predated the slim PS3 model.  I know many people who love to have Linux as the alternative OS on their PS3s.  I haven’t installed Linux on my PS3 yet, but since this news has came to light, I probably will try soon to see the benefit of not updating is a plus or a negative.  So expect another post from me on this very topic in the near future!

Sony claims that for security reason, it prefers to eliminate the install other OS option.  To my knowledge, the people that know what they’re doing, installing another OS onto PS3 won’t be a security risk!  Only the people that have not a clue of how to secure a computer system, a gaming console, and whatever else can put just about any system at risk!  Secure or not!  I hate to see the install other OS option to go away, but it’s Sony’s business, and so who am I to say!  What do you think?  Source.
