Facebook has just rolled out a new way for its 350 million users to have more control over their “privacy.” You have the options to make portions of your profile more private, for instance you can allow only friends of friends to view on certain items in your profile. With a stricter setting, only friends of your will be able to see your stuffs. Your old settings are automatically preserved, and you can always switch back and forth between your new settings and your preserved settings. To tweak all of these, you need to go to Settings link on the top right corner, from the pull down links, click on Privacy Settings.
Privacy is so important for social network, because sometimes information that should not be shown to the whole world are out in the open for millions of strangers. It’s an old advice, but it’s the best advice which is not to post any critical or important information online (over the web) if you want no such information to be exposed. Remember, when your private information are saved in the database of a social network, without careful privacy settings, your information may have gotten captured by other unknown entities (i.e., search engine, websites, etc…); by then although you can go into Facebook or any social network that you’re using and try to delete your private information, in reality your private information are still online (over the web) as those are preserved in the database of the unknown entities that you have no control of. It also seems that many people are hating new Facebook’s privacy settings. Some complain about the new Facebook’s privacy settings are actually less private. What you think about new Facebook’s privacy settings?
