Acer Aspire One AOD250 and AS5738PG-6306

Acer’s Aspire One AOD250 is a netbook that has a dual boot button where you can boot into Windows XP or Android.  It seems this is a good idea for some people, but for me, I prefer to have it dual boot into Windows 7 or Android.  This is an easy fix as one can go buy a Windows 7, and then install Windows 7 as a replacement for Windows XP, but it may not be a cake for non-technical computer users to go this route.  Then again, buying a copy of Windows 7 is going to cost someone some money too.  The specification for this netbook is not bad too.  It got 160GB hard-drive, 1GB of memory, Intel Atom N80 processor, multi-touch touchpad, and a small screen size of 10.1 inch.  The cost is also cheap as it’s now only $300.

Acer got another nice one, Aspire AS5738PG-6306 is the first multi-touch display laptop.  This one comes with 64-bit Windows 7, and it’s to be available on the same day that Windows 7 gets released.  The specification is pretty good on this one too as it got Intel Core 2 Duo T6600 at 2.2GHz, 4GB DDR2 RAM, 320GB SATA hard-drive, 8X DVD-Super Multi Double-Layer Drive, Crystal Eye Webcam, Intel Wireless WiFi Link 5100, HDMI Port, 4 USB 2.0 Ports, and 6-Cell Battery.  As now it costs around $800 or less.  I like this laptop because it got multi-touch display, and the specification is pretty nice.

When you research online about Acer brand, you get a sense that many people do not like Acer, and many have complained that their Acer notebooks do not work well.  For me, I think it’s down to a specific model of a computer brand you are looking at.  Sometimes, a well known computer brand that has a good reputation got a crappy model.  For Acer, I think one should look carefully at its specific model, decide on a specification, and then comparing the price of it to another high-end notebook of another brand with similar specification.  In the end, I think you should get an Acer if the price is right for you, but if you could afford a more expensive notebook from a more expensive brand that has similar specification as an Acer, with enough research and not minding of paying out more money, then an Acer may not be a good buy.
