Not too long ago that Amazon, Yahoo, and Microsoft brought Google’s book project to court, and now the Department of Justice rules that Google needs to make some changes in the proposed settlement. According to the Depart of Justice, Google’s book project’s proposed settlement does not need to go back to square one, but only needs to be improved by either removing or adding additional terms. Department of Justice also wants Google to address a fairer term for orphan works (copyrighted works belong to unknown authors), because the Department of Justice does not want to see Google has all the access to orphan works but the competitors cannot. Read a lot more about this at SearchEngineLand.com.
This is a good news somewhat since the Department of Justice is not telling Google to scrap its book project’s settlement, but only to improve it. If the settlement gets iron out correctly for all parties, hopefully it’s also favorable to everyday Internet users like us. With Google places its mammoth body in the digital books arena, it’s that Amazon and few other well known digital books sellers cannot be too careless when come to prices. This means the prices for e-books can be competitive, and this overall means a good thing for everyday people who will spend money on e-books.
